Markets of Barcelona

What better way to get to know a city than to get to know its gastronomy? If you come to Barcelona, you should visit its most traditional markets. From Midtown Luxury Apartments we want to make you a compilation of the most emblematic markets of Barcelona.

La Boquería (Mercado de San José)

La Boquería is a municipal market located on Barcelona's Rambla. It is a place where you can buy all kinds of fresh produce, it is known for its quality and for offering local and exotic products. In fact, in 2005 it received the prize for the best market at the World Markets Congress held in Washington. It is the largest market in Barcelona, it also offers a wide range of food and is the most visited by tourists. We can say that it is an obligatory visit.

Mercado de Santa Caterina

This covered market is one of the oldest in the city. It is easily recognized by its original and colorful roof, a ceramic mosaic that makes it a roof. It pays homage to the master Antoni Gaudí and its shape is reminiscent of the awnings that covered the posts in the past and that undulated with the wind. It is a very wide market with a varied offer. It is focused on local citizens, unlike the Boquería Market, which is more touristic.

Mercado del Borne

El Born became Barcelona's central fruit and vegetable market. Located in the Ciutat Vella, it was on the verge of being demolished, but the residents opposed the destruction of this emblematic iron building, Barcelona's heritage. After years of debate, the entire structure was rehabilitated and today, this Cultural Asset of Local Interest, is a very active Cultural Center and one of the greatest attractions of the Born. General admission costs €6, but on Sundays, from 15:00 to 20:00, it is an open day.

Mercado de Sant Antoni

In the Eixample Esquerra is the Sant Antoni market, one of the most important and largest in Barcelona. This is also a market of supplies directed mainly to the local citizens. During the week you can find all kinds of clothes, shoes, household utensils, vegetables, fruit, fish and meat. On Sunday, you can also find second-hand books and stamps for collectors.

We hope that this small compilation has served you to know the best Markets of Barcelona. And remember, if you come to visit Barcelona the best accommodations are the apartments Midtown Luxury Apartments. Located right in the center of the city, they offer all kinds of amenities.
